Questions and Answers - Habitat Housing Programs & Application Process
Habitat offers in-person Housing Fairs for potential applicants to learn about the Habitat programs and requirements. If attendees decide to apply, they can receive one-on-one assistance with a member of our Partner Selection or Partner Support Committees and get the application started right away.
NEXT HOUSING FAIR:
May 14th and May 28th
Premier Bank - 211 S. Fulton Street, Wauseon
Come anytime between 5:30pm-7pm to learn about Habitat's homeownership program. Selection and Support committee members will be on-hand to answer questions and assist you with your application (if you wish).
If you cannot make it to a Housing Fair or if one is not scheduled at this time, but still wish to apply, contact Habitat to do so via Email: director@habitatfco.org or Phone: 419-335-7000 (Make sure to give your mailing address and request a homeownership, repair or ramp application packet).
PROGRAMS AVAILABLE:
HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM - complete requirements (educational, community involvement, helping to build your house), then purchase a new home from Habitat at 0% interest, keeping the mortgage payments affordable (typically lower than rent).
RAMP MINISTRY - ramps built for those in need of accessibility but little means to pay conventionally. Loans for repayment made at 0% interest to keep it affordable.
REPAIR PROGRAM - minor repairs MAY be considered dependent on grant funding. Habitat reserves the right to qualify projects based on scope of work involved. If the project requested is too extensive, does not qualify for available funding, does not increase the value of the home or if the home needs other repairs that don’t qualify the requested repair for completion, Habitat may decline an application.
Application Round is open to any U.S. Citizen who is willing to move to Fulton County, Ohio and accept a home in any town within the county. Further requirements specified in application process.
Habitat for Humanity has always believed everyone deserves a decent place to live. We follow fair housing laws and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, familiar status, ancestry, military status, disability or national origin. We also, in accordance with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) do not discriminate against credit applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age or source of income.
Selection Criteria
Habitat uses three criteria to determine whether or not a family is ready to take part in our programs.
-
Need.
Families often need a home because their current housing isn't viable. It may be overcrowded, too expensive, structurally unsound, or located in a dangerous neighborhood.
-
Ability to pay.
You must be able to afford a monthly mortgage payment. Gross income from all sources will be reviewed to determine your ability to repay the no-interest loan provided by Habitat.
-
Willingness to partner.
Habitat homeowners work on their own homes as well as homes for others.
Income Guidelines
Habitat offers its program to families in specific income ranges, adjusted for the number of persons in your family. Income includes wages, SS, disability, SSI, TANF and child support (if you choose to provide it as an income source). Your total yearly gross income will be reviewed for ability to repay capability during the application process and if chosen, again before construction and closing on your home.
