Playhouse Project Information

Are you a family with limited ability to provide a playhouse for your child(ren)?

Apply for Habitat's Playhouse Project and give your child(ren) a chance to learn about homeownership at an early age.

Fulton, Henry and Defiance County residents may apply.

Here's how it works:

Habitat for Humanity’s Playhouse Project is a program that connects sponsor groups with families who would like to receive a playhouse for their children.

With Habitat’s guidance, sponsors fund, design and build each playhouse, then present it to the children they are partnered with, experiencing the joy that such a tremendous gift brings. “Playing house” is often the first-time kids think about what it means to have their own home.  What better way to foster and inspire homeownership at an early age!

Recipient families do not pay for the playhouses, but do need to commit to:

  • Filling out a simple application that tells Habitat
    • why you are applying,
    • the ages and names of your children who would be receiving the playhouse,
    • their favorite colors, theme ideas (what they currently like)
    • any special needs to be aware of in the construction (IE: wheelchair accessible)
  • Agreeing to a limited degree of publicity – this is regarding the sponsor group providing the funds ($2500) and volunteer labor to make this dream come true.  Sometimes media representatives show up on build days, so photos may be taken.  Habitat also takes photos and videos so we can show potential sponsors what to expect from a Playhouse Project.
  • Participating in a 15-minute orientation (it is a slideshow done through Zoom unless you need to meet in person).  This explains everything you need to know about your Playhouse Project, what is expected of you and what you can expect from the experience.
  • Committing to being present, with your children on the Playhouse Project Build Day for the “reveal” of your playhouse.  This is extremely important because it is a moment you’ll never forget, along with your sponsor team getting to meet you and your family.  This is typically in the afternoon, after the playhouse is finished.
  • Transporting your playhouse to your home (the orientation explains this further).  If you absolutely cannot transport, tell us, but we do expect every effort to be made to do this yourself.  Playhouses are 4’x5’x6’ and fit in the back of a pickup truck or on a flatbed trailer.

This program is NOT based on income-eligibility.  We do not ask for income information.  It is based on “need”.  Perhaps your family has had medical, employment or life setbacks that make it difficult for you to provide such a gift yourself.

If you agree to the above commitments and can honestly attest that you and your extended family cannot provide a playhouse for your children due to your circumstances, Habitat invites you to apply for Playhouse Project.  We would love to serve your family!
