What We Do

Homeownership

Habitat in Fulton County is not accepting applications at this time. If you would like to be added to a mailing list and receive an application at a later time, please send your postal mailing address to: director@habitatfco.org

Habitat for Humanity offers low-income families the opportunity to own a home. Becoming a Habitat homeowner requires commitment, responsibility and deep involvement.  The Habitat program is not a "quick fix" to an emergency housing problem.  Most partnerships are 6-24 months or longer before families move into their homes.

In order to partner with us, you must meet the following preliminary criteria:

  1. You must be a Legal Permanent Resident of the United States.
  2. You must have lived or worked in our county for at least 12 months. Affiliates for other vicinities can be found at habitat.org.
  3. Your yearly income must fall within our income guidelines, which are adjusted for family size.  These guidelines change annually based on Federal Average Median Income statistics for Fulton County, Ohio, so are not listed for review.  Income includes wages, Social Security, disability, SSI, TANF and child support* *(if applicant chooses to include it as an income source).
  4. You must have one year of continuous income.
  5. You must have a reasonably good credit history. It must be at least two years since you discharged any bankruptcies, and you must be making payments on your debts.
  6. You must have a need for housing because your current housing is unaffordable, unsafe, or overcrowded.
  7. You must partner with Habitat for Humanity and contribute "sweat equity," helping to build your home as well as other partners' homes.  You must complete education requirements, meet regularly with Habitat Staff and your Mentor as well as volunteer in your local community.  All applicants and co-applicants must complete a minimum of 250 hours each. Habitat will assist you in setting up your educational requirements and finding community involvement opportunities that meet your schedule and capabilities.

The Habitat partnership is a Hand UP, not a hand out.  You will work for what you receive and we will commit to helping you succeed in providing opportunity for a positive future for you and your family.

Habitat agrees to provide mentoring, education and sweat equity opportunities throughout the partnership and to sell Habitat homes to partners at low- or no- interest, which keeps the cost of your home more affordable than rent, in most cases.

If you wish to apply, please click on our Homeownership application or call the office to request a postal mailed copy.  If the application is not available on this website link, it means Habitat is not reviewing applications at this time.  You can provide your contact information and we will advise you when applications are being accepted.  This process is open approximately once per year.
