Dining for a Cause was a great success again!!

County Restaurants and Communities Work Together to Support Habitat for Humanity

You had one day to dine out and do good, and you did - November 27th marked Habitat for Humanity’s 2nd-annual Dining for a Cause event in Fulton County.  This all day event, in coordination with Giving Tuesday, provided a fun and easy way for community members to give – just dine at any of 17 different restaurant locations and that restaurant donated to Habitat.  “This is a great way for people to enjoy a meal out, supporting a local business and in turn, that business would give back through the Habitat mission”, stated Heidi Kern, Habitat’s executive director.

13 different restauranteurs across the county and Napoleon participated and have contributed nearly $2000 in support of Habitat’s efforts.  In addition, $540.00 was raised the same day by community members who gave individually to support the local Habitat mission.

Returning restaurants who sponsored this event are:  Wings Station in Swanton, Delta 109 Tavern & Eatery in Delta, Pisanello’s Pizza in Swanton, Sullivan’s Restaurant in Wauseon, Tano’s Pizza in Swanton and Wauseon, The Barn Restaurant in Delta, Marco’s Pizza in Delta, Wauseon, Archbold and Napoleon, and Healthy Spot in Wauseon.  Newcomers to this event are:  Healthy Habits in Delta, The Blue Ribbon Diner in Wauseon, Ks Fine Food & Drink in Lyons, Sully’s Bakery & Bistro in Wauseon and Winchesters Restaurant and Saloon in Delta.

Funds raised are designated for projects through Habitat’s local affiliate.  Habitat for Humanity makes housing affordable by partnering with low-income individuals to build and repair homes.  Habitat partners work alongside volunteers to build or repair their home, then pay the gift back through a low- or no- interest loan.  This keeps homeownership safe, decent and affordable.  Kern says, “Providing a hand up to neighbors in need is a goal of the Habitat mission.  It’s not a give-a-way.  Partners pay back the cost of their projects over time, in affordable installments.”

Habitat has to raise the funds in order to pay for these projects upfront.  Without financial support, Habitat cannot build and repair homes, making communities more stable.  Through donations and events like Dining for a Cause, Habitat funds its mission and prepares to help more individuals in need of decent, affordable housing.

Dining for a Cause 2019 is already set for Tuesday, December 3rd.  Most restaurant sponsors have committed to participate again, many stating how much they appreciated the numerous patrons who dined with them that day.  For more information on Dining for a Cause or Habitat’s mission, visit www.habitatfco.org
